Abortion rights - illustration

Honestly, I keep wondering why the hell we still have to debate abortion rights in 2026. I can't wrap my head around why we can't accept a simple truth: a woman's autonomy over her own body and her own life isn't an option, it's a right.

And yet… abortion rights are still one of the most polarizing, most rage-inducing topics out there. To this day we're surrounded by moral gatekeepers. Men, priests, politicians, and yes, even some women line up right behind them. That's why the question keeps coming back to me: why can't we respect another person's decision? A decision that, by the way, is brutally hard?

No one gets an abortion for fun. No one does it because they have nothing better to do on a Monday morning. That's exactly why it's a massive mistake when someone tops it all off with judgment.

The sick joke is that the loudest people barking from their moral high ground are often the same ones who, minutes later, can feel sorry for the children suffering in orphanages and state care.

The very children who later - because they grow up without love, attention, or safety - can end up on a path in life that those same moral gatekeepers will judge all over again.

So tell me: what's better? To bring a child into the world just so they can suffer afterward? You say yes. Yes, so you can nod along sadly? So there's someone to blame? Sure, on paper there's a solution for everything. But who actually helps those kids in real life? Because from you, my dear moral gatekeeper, I don't see actions. I see big, empty, loud, unsolicited words.

No matter what a woman chooses, it's wrong - because the real issue isn't abortion rights, it's control over women's bodies

You judge. You judge the women who dare to decide. Who move forward, even through pain. You tell them what they should feel, what they should carry, how they should decide, what they should go through. While it's that woman who carries the pregnancy for nine months and holds responsibility for a lifetime. Not you.

I, for example, want a child. I really do. When I feel safe and when I can give a child that safety too. But the cruelty of the world makes me think. That cruelty you feed into, heavily. I'm ashamed on your behalf as well.

I'm ashamed because opinions about abortion rights rarely have anything to do with abortion itself. This is about control. About power over women's bodies.

In this damn society, a woman's body is always public property. No matter the topic: her body belongs to everyone except her. Everyone has an opinion, usually sharp and absolute. Plenty of people even think they have a right to decide - except the person who lives with the consequences. She's not allowed an opinion or a choice, because whatever she chooses, you judge.

The double standard

She chooses abortion? MURDERER. She raises the child alone? IRRESPONSIBLE. She chooses adoption? SELFISH. Honestly? Who the hell asked for these opinions? Why do women have to hear them at the exact moment they're deciding about their own bodies?

You, dear moral gatekeeper, shouting your views so loudly - you're selfish too. Selfish because you don't stop to think what kind of life awaits the child you're forcing into existence. Selfish because you don't actually care about the woman, the child, or life - you just want to be right. This isn't about saving the fetus. This is about ego. Judgment. Control.

And please, if it annoys you that your mother-in-law sticks her nose into what kind of puree you feed your kid, how does it not annoy you that you're sticking your nose into someone else's body? Because you don't actually care. Not really.

Men who talk easily - abused women who show the reality in numbers

You men talk so easily. Why wouldn't you? Ninety seconds of yelling and the baby's made. And then someone else carries the consequences, because she's the woman, right? Woman = baby factory, servant, caregiver, emotional dumping ground.

You know what's the saddest part? After your big ninety seconds, while she carries your child for nine months, you can just walk away, because she gained a few pounds during pregnancy. That's where you show how cowardly and sneaky you can be.

85% 85% of single parents are women EU social policy reports

So where are you then, real man? At the bar? Posing next to your new girlfriend who's fifteen years younger? You can afford it. You get to live your life, because the pay gap works in your favor. Because society has your back. And the woman will figure it out. She'll figure it out alone. She'll figure it out poor. She'll figure it out abused. She'll figure it out condemned.

But let a woman dare to say she can't take on a child and suddenly there's a loud audience. Suddenly everyone's a genius.

Domestic violence and abortion rights

When the decision isn't free - it's forced

Just like when a woman says she's afraid to go through with it. You don't need to be a mathematician to calculate how many give birth inside abusive relationships. How many children are born into abusive homes. What's the guarantee that child won't be abused too? What's the guarantee they won't grow up watching their father beat their mother half to death because he feels like it?

So tell me: should she still give birth in that situation? Because it'll be fine? Sure. It'll be great. The baby was born. Woohoo. Everyone's happy. Except the one person who should matter most: the child. The point is the child was born and then their life falls apart while everyone congratulates themselves.

Abortion rights aren't anti-children - they're about life decisions and bodily autonomy

So many people talk about abortion like it's a bowl of soup. "If you don't want it, don't buy it." Please. If you're not hungry, you don't eat. If you're not ready for a child, how could you possibly take that on?

Deciding to have an abortion isn't easy, quick, or shallow. And when someone forces a woman into pregnancy against her will, that isn't protecting life - it's sacrificing a woman's life.

Abortion rights aren't about whether we like kids. They aren't about how good we are as people. Abortion rights are about a woman having the right to decide what happens to her body.

Lately some men bring it up as a sneer: "women wanted equality, this is what feminism gets you." If someone thinks feminism means women can work, but still have to be servants at home, then they shouldn't talk about equality - not even as a joke. Equality means you take on an equal share. You respect a woman's body and her decision. You don't rule your partner.

Until some men understand that, until society understands it, until politicians understand it - there is no equality. There is no respect. There is no humanity.
